Four vehicles involved in fatal Nevada truck accident

Some of the most serious accident on Nevada roadways involve large commercial trucks. Because 18-wheelers and other large trucks are so much bigger and heavier than passenger cars, any collision between the two can easily lead to catastrophic injury and death for the occupants of the smaller vehicle.

Recently, Nevada authorities reported a fatal crash involving a large commercial truck. The accident occurred east of Sparks when a large commercial truck hit a pickup in the east lanes of Interstate 80, according to the Nevada Highway Patrol. Police said the impact pushed the pickup into the westbound lanes of the highway and the pickup hit two other vehicles. One person in the pickup was killed. No one else was reported injured.

In addition to being more dangerous, truck accidents also raise more complex legal issues. After a typical car accident caused by one driver's negligence, an injured party may file a lawsuit against the negligent driver in order to recover compensation for medical expenses, lost wages and other damages. However, if the negligent party was driving a commercial truck, there may be other parties liable as well.

In some cases, the truck company that employed the driver may be held liable under the legal theory of respondeat superior, which holds that employers may be held liable for damages caused by their employees in the course of their employment. In the course of an investigation into the accident, the injured can also look into whether the employer contributed to the accident by violating federal trucking regulations, such as those that were designed to reduce truck driver fatigue.

Personal injury and wrongful death claims involving truck accidents can be very complicated. It's important for Nevada residents who have been injured in these accidents -- or the families of those who have been killed -- to have the help of attorneys with experience in handling these cases.
