Pedestrian critically injured by drunk hit-and-run driver

Some of the most troubling accidents in Nevada are hit-and-run accidents in which the victim was a pedestrian. An auto-pedestrian accident is likely to result in serious injuries to the pedestrian, if not death. If the victim or nearby witnesses cannot identify the driver, it could mean a careless driver is getting away with severely injuring or killing someone.

Recently, a 53-year-old man was left with critical injuries after police said he was hit by a drunk driver. According to police, the man was crossing a Las Vegas street when a Chevrolet pickup truck ran into him. The driver of the truck apparently fled the scene, but Nevada Highway Patrol officers said they were able to find the truck and driver a short while later. The driver was charged with felony drunk driving and fleeing the scene of an accident.

After a pedestrian accident, the injured person is likely to face huge medical bills, lose income and face other financial challenges. A personal injury lawsuit can help compensate the injured or the families of those killed for their damages. However, to collect these damages, the plaintiffs must first find the negligent driver responsible. That isn’t always easy to do after a negligent driver flees the scene of an accident.

Fortunately, police have many ways to track down drivers they suspect of being involved in hit-and-run accidents. Witnesses may come forward as well. It’s in everyone’s interest to make sure that careless drivers are removed from the road.

Personal injury lawsuits can serve the purpose of public safety as well, by holding careless drivers accountable for their actions and encouraging other drivers to be more careful in the future. A Nevada attorney can help the injured to understand how these legal actions work.
