What is Nevada Highway Patrol doing about aggressive drivers?

We have all seen them, the scary drivers: the drivers that speed excessively, switch lanes constantly and just give an overall uneasy feeling to safe drivers everywhere. The reality is that aggressive driving can cause real tragedy and injury to innocent people driving safely. Disaster strikes when the aggressive driver loses control or makes an ill-advised driving maneuver that results in a car accident. What a lot of people don't know is that aggressive driving is prevalent among passenger-vehicle drivers and commercial truck drivers.

To combat the negative effects of aggressive driving, the Nevada Highway Patrol has unveiled a program called Nevada Ticketing Aggressive Cars and Trucks or NTACT. This program is designed to recognize and put a stop to aggressive drivers. This initiative was formed after 2006 statistics were released concerning aggressive passenger vehicle and semi-truck drivers. It is aimed at combating the problem with education and targeted enforcement activities.

According to statistics compiled nationally in 2006, over 5,000 people died in large truck accidents, with nearly 4,000 of those being the result of passenger vehicles and trucks colliding. What is the cause of such accidents? Many factors, but aggressive driving is certainly a factor. Semi-trucks are so large that if they are involved in an accident it can affect a half dozen cars in the blink of an eye. For example, the driver of a passenger vehicle could be speeding or making illegal lane changes when a tractor trailer unknowingly comes in contact with that car causing a multi-vehicle accident with a multitude of injuries.

While it is nearly impossible to micro-manage every driver on the road today, these programs really do make a difference. If the NHP can prevent even one accident, one death, one injury, it is still a success. In the meantime, any victim of a truck accident or other motor vehicle accident should hold the responsible parties legally accountable.
