When individuals get behind the wheel while intoxicated, they not only endanger themselves, they endanger the lives of all those around them. Every year, thousands of people across the country are tragically injured or killed in drunk driving accidents. Everyone knows that driving under the influence of alcohol is reckless and completely irresponsible. Yet, so many Nevada residents choose to drive drunk.
Recently, a crash caused by an alleged drunk driver ended the life of a Las Vegas resident. The accident happened during the overnight hours on U.S. 95 near Las Vegas. According to reports, the driver of an SUV was traveling at a high rate of speed, crossed the centerline of the highway and drove into oncoming traffic. Reports said the SUV collided head-on with an oncoming sedan.
Tragically, the driver of the sedan was killed in the crash, authorities said. The SUV was traveling at over 100 mph at the time of the collision, according to police reports. Police suspected the driver of the SUV to be intoxicated and placed him under arrest. He was charged with driving under the influence causing death, reckless driving and other serious charges. Reportedly, the SUV driver had a blood alcohol content of nearly three times the legal limit at the time of the crash.
Police departments in Nevada work around the clock to protect citizens from drunk drivers. Unfortunately, despite these efforts, drunk driver accidents continue to be a very real problem across the state. Those who have suffered the loss of loved ones in drunk driving accidents may want to consider discussions with an experienced attorney. A successful wrongful death lawsuit could provide compensation to ease pain and suffering and help with end-of-life expenses.
