Despite stringent legislation and enhanced law enforcement efforts, driving under the influence of alcohol is a real problem that continues to plague the state of Nevada. Every year, thousands of lives are tragically lost in drunk driving accidents on American roadways. There is never a good reason to drive while intoxicated. It is one of the most dangerous things a person can do.
A woman is facing felony charges after she allegedly struck and killed two teenage girls while driving drunk. The incident happened in Las Vegas near a busy intersection. According to reports, the woman drove over a curb, collided with a traffic sign and struck the two 16 year-old girls who were in a crosswalk. Reportedly, the woman also crashed into a traffic signal pole and knocked down a tree.
The tree then struck two other vehicles that were waiting in a drive-thru line at an adjacent fast food restaurant. Tragically, one of the teens died on the scene while the other later died at the hospital, reports said. Police said the driver admitted to drinking alcohol before driving that day. She was arrested and charged with DUI causing death and felony reckless driving. The woman remains jailed without bond and was recently scheduled for arraignment.
Unfortunately, people are still choosing to endanger lives by driving under the influence of alcohol. There is nothing in life as painful as losing a loved one. Families in Nevada who have suffered loss due to drunk driving accidents have the right to take action and consult legal representation. A successfully litigated wrongful death claim could help families recover any financial losses that may have occurred due to such a tragedy.
