Despite the fact that driving under the influence of alcohol is reckless and dangerous, people continue to get behind the wheel while intoxicated. Although police forces across the state of Nevada have made great strides in the fight against drunk driving, this problem is far from being solved. In the United States, thousands of people are killed every year in drunk driving accidents. A recent DUI crash in Las Vegas claimed the life of a motorcyclist.
The accident happened during the overnight hours on highway U.S. 95 south at the transition ramp for I-15 southbound. According to reports, the driver of a sedan was traveling at a high rate of speed and approaching the I-15 transition ramp. Reportedly, the sedan entered a restricted area and struck the crash cushion. The impact knocked the sedan into the southbound lanes of U.S. 95 and into the path of an oncoming motorcycle.
Reports said the motorcycle collided with the sedan and the rider was thrown from the motorcycle. Tragically, the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene, authorities said. The driver of the sedan was suspected of drunk driving and arrested by police. Police said he was charged with DUI resulting in death and reckless driving resulting in death or substantial bodily harm, among other serious charges.
When Nevada drivers take to the road, they face a number of dangers. Unfortunately, sharing the road with a drunk driver is one of these dangers. Those who suffer injuries or loss in an accident caused by a drunk driver can contact an experienced lawyer and pursue damages. A successfully litigated lawsuit may result in financial relief to help victims and families recover from a tragic crash.
