Car, truck and motorcycle accident injury and legal compensation
On Behalf of Bradley, Drendel & Jeanney • Aug 13, 2015
Disfigurement, disability and loss of wages are possible complications that people may endure after a car accident. As emotionally devastating as these things can be, it can be equally as devastating financially. When a person in Reno suffers car accident injuries due to someone else’s negligence, they should explore their legal options. There are ways to recover economically from the costs associated with a truck, motorcycle or car accidents.
Imagine you or a loved one was the victim of a car accident that left that person seriously injured. The first step is nursing them back to health, but it is common knowledge that medical expenses are not cheap. Secondly, the person is likely out of work during this time and could potentially lose wages related to the lack of work. Between the costs and lack of income, a person could become financially weak during this already difficult time after a serious car accident.
This is where it may be important for a victim of a car accident to seek economic relief in the form of compensation for their accident-related injuries. It is possible to seek compensation for medical expenses, but some people don’t know that they can seek other damages including lost wages and loss of enjoyment of life.
Some people are lucky to have not a scratch on them or a loved one after a car accident. Other people do not fare so well after a serious car wreck. Consider all corners of quality of life and what you or a loved one may have lost due to the accident. Then consider what it would mean to recover financially for these losses..

Two teens among increasing number of Nevada road fatalities
On Behalf of Bradley, Drendel & Jeanney • Aug 05, 2015
When it comes to how Reno residents should approach getting behind the wheel, safety should be the top concern. This is because fatalities have been an increasing problem on Nevada roads recently. The reasons behind these accidents vary; but one prevalent reason has been accidents caused by a drunk driver. If convicted, these drunk driving offenders can face consequences beyond criminal penalties.
One tragic case that has surfaced once again in local reports is the story of two teen girls who lost their lives in a car accident near Las Vegas. The driver of the other vehicle was reportedly driving at speeds in excess of 100 miles-per-hour when the driver struck the vehicle carrying the two teens. The negligent driver is also suspected of driving under the influence at the time of the accident. The driver could potentially be the target of a wrongful death suit as a result of the two girls’ deaths.
According to Nevada Highway Patrol (NHP), these teen girls are not the only two who have been killed on Nevada roads this year. Nearly 60 people have perished this year. NHP attributes this increase in road fatalities to speeding and other negligent behavior such as texting and driving. Fatalities are up 10 percent from this time of last year on Nevada roads. Because of this, authorities are urging citizens to slow down and to stop all distracted driving activities while behind the wheel.
For those who have personally been affected by the destruction a drunk driver can cause, there are legal options. Those suspected of drunk driving often face criminal investigation. This investigation can lend itself useful when trying to prove civil liability against that driver. Proof of liability can mean compensation for the victims of the negligent driver.

Reno car accidents, severe injuries and compensation explained
On Behalf of Bradley, Drendel & Jeanney • Jul 31, 2015
Reno residents hear about terrible car accidents happening in our neighborhoods and on our busy streets all the time. After a serious car accident, a victim may be thinking how lucky they are to have survived. However, a car accident victim knows that life can change drastically after suffering injuries from a car accident.
Health is arguably the most important aspect of a person’s life. When a person’s health suffers due to a car accident injury, the injured party often has many medical needs. But what about the financial aspects needed to fund injury treatment and rehabilitation? This is where a Reno car accident victim should not fight alone.
There are options available to those that have been injured in a car accident. After a full and complete investigation of a car accident, a person should consider turning those findings over to people who are well-versed on the topic. If a person was negligent or driving under the influence at the time of the accident, the victim may have a legitimate claim against that person. However, the “facts” of an accident aren’t always limited to what the police find and include in a report. It may be important to work with an independent investigator to gather additional data.
Whether suffering mild to severe injuries, such as a brain injury, it is not advisable to fight this battle alone. It is crucial to establish who was responsible for a car accident and to what degree. This could determine financial repercussions for the negligent party. This possible compensation could help pay medical bills that are a heavy weight for the injured person to bear.
What differs between complete and incomplete spinal cord injury?
On Behalf of Bradley, Drendel & Jeanney • Jul 23, 2015
The spinal cord is considered to be the “command center” of the human body. It handles functions such as movement and sensation. For many important tasks, the spinal cord does the brain’s bidding; therefore if a Reno resident is injured in a car accident by a negligent driver it could change the course of life for the injured person should the spinal cord be damged. Depending on the type of injury and the specifics of a person’s medical injury, the spinal cord injury can be considered complete or incomplete.
The spinal cord is a bundle of nerves that is protected by the spine. When the spinal cord bundle is impacted or bent the wrong way, such as can happen in a car accident, it can affect the way the spinal cord interacts with the brain. This can lead to paralysis, chronic pain or even death.
It is important to understand the difference between complete and incomplete spinal cord injuries because each diagnosis comes with its own customary rehabilitation and medical care. Complete injury is characterized by a loss of feeling in the lower extremities or anus. The victim of an incomplete injury has feeling in that area. It seems like a small detail, but feeling (or lack of feeling) in that area greatly determines the course of treatment and rehabilitation needed for the injured person.
As a rule of thumb, medical expenses for complete spinal cord injuries are much higher than those with incomplete injuries. However, all spinal cord injuries are complicated and always will require the attention of a medical professional. Accident victims need to consider all areas of recourse when facing medical expenses related to a spinal cord injury. Negligent drivers may be held responsible for their actions at the time of an accident.

Answers to common questions after Reno motorcycle accidents
On Behalf of Bradley, Drendel & Jeanney • Jul 16, 2015
Motorcycle accident victims often have serious injuries that are not easily explainable. These victims tend to suffer from head injuries and other serious injuries, like spinal cord injuries. Reno residents suffering from these injuries may not always understand their rights in this terrible situation. It is crucial for people to understand their rights if they finds themselves injured after a motorcycle accident.
Oftentimes, other vehicles in accidents with motorcyclists claim that they did not see the motorcyclist at the time of the accident. An example of this type of accident can happen when a vehicle takes a left turn at an intersection which causes the accident with the motorcyclist traveling straight in the other direction. This is negligent behavior on part of the left-hand turning vehicle since straight traveling vehicles almost always have the right of way. This is a situation where an injured party should consider seeking reparations for any injuries they sustained due to the accident.
Head injuries are a common complaint after a motorcyclist is involved in an accident with a passenger vehicle. A motorcyclist can sustain a head injury even if the person is wearing a helmet. Helmets are always recommended to help prevent head injuries to motorcyclists and sometimes they are required by law. This is governed by state law if such laws are enforced.
Helmet, or no helmet, motorcyclists who are the victim in a motorcycle accident with another vehicle should pursue their rights. Whether the other vehicle was completely or partially at fault for the accident the victim should protect their rights. Motorcyclists may be tougher to see but they are still entitled to the same rights as everyone else. Everyone should watch out for motorcyclists on Reno roads this summer.

Nevada Highway Patrol increases patrols over holiday weekend
On Behalf of Bradley, Drendel & Jeanney • Jul 09, 2015
Fireworks, barbecues and getting together with friends and family are a few things most Americans think of around the Fourth of July. But people may not know it is also a time that is attributed to an increase in drunk drivers and drunk driving accidents. In response to this, the Nevada Highway Patrol has released their intention to increase patrols for the time surrounding the summer holiday. They hope this will deter drunk drivers from getting behind the wheel.
There are many reasons the NHP would want to discourage drunk drivers. Drunk drivers are responsible for hundreds of car accidents and injuries in Reno and the surrounding area each year. Alcohol is a contributing factor in many crashes around the Fourth of July in recent years. This is why the state traffic safety administration is so focused on decreasing the number of drunk drivers on Nevada roads.
The increased patrols will consist mainly of an increase in Nevada state troopers along major highways. According to the Nevada Office for Traffic Safety, every year the Independence Day holiday weekend brings an increase of alcohol consumption. The abundance of alcohol shows up in drivers and results in increased serious injuries and fatalities in drunk driving-related accidents. Nevada State Troopers are hoping to set a firm example that drinking and driving isn’t tolerated on holiday weekends.
Strong consequences await those facing drunk driving related charges. Heavy fines, loss of license and jail time are all likely consequences if convicted of a drunk driving related offense. Despite criminal punishments, there is also the possibility that serious injuries or death could result to innocent drivers involved in the accident. These innocent people have rights if wrongly harmed in an accident with a drunk driver.

Reno drunk driving accident victims can recover compensation
On Behalf of Bradley, Drendel & Jeanney • Jul 02, 2015
As far as car accidents go, accidents involving a drunk driver are not uncommon and can mean fatal consequences for anyone involved in the cross-fire. Imagine that you or a family member are driving safely along when the once-peaceful drive is pierced by a brutal car accident. The accident seemingly comes out of nowhere and many drivers report serious injuries resulting from an accident where they are struck by a drunk driver.
The legal professionals at [nap_names id=”FIRM-NAME-1″] are here to explain that victims of drunk driving accidents do have options in this terrible situation.
After a car accident involving a drunk driver there can be many immediate concerns a person may need to deal with. This can include medical treatment or property damage repair. Either situation can seriously affect the ebb-and-flow of everyday life. Financially, it can leave a person’s bank account in duress to pay for these expenses. However, this can be just a temporary drain of a person’s financial assets if the correct steps are taken to recover for the person’s losses.
Correct steps could include something like a full investigation of the accident. This could mean interviewing witnesses, examining tire tracks or having a professional re-create the accident to determine the speed at which the accident took place. Details obtained in the investigation can help to determine negligence — if a person was in fact acting in a manner void of care. People are at least partially negligent if it is determined they were illegally intoxicated at the time of the car accident. Drunk drivers can face stiff criminal and civil penalties for their actions.
Compensation may be in order if people are in fact, victims of a drunk driving acciden t. The compensation could cover medical bills or property damage. It could cover pain and suffering due to injuries caused by the accident. Although remedies will never take back what happened it can help to make life a bit easier.
What do you do immediately after a Nevada car accident?
On Behalf of Bradley, Drendel & Jeanney • Jun 24, 2015
Immediately after a sudden and jarring car accident it is easy to become overwhelmed, scared or unsure of what to do next. How could a person possibly expect to be struck out of nowhere? The truth is that serious injuries or damages could be the result of this split-second accident. There are a few things Nevada drivers should keep in mind in case they or their family members were the victims of a vicious car accident.
Picture the situation you could one day find yourself in. After suddenly coming into contact with another vehicle you are dazed and unsure of exactly what just happen. This is the crucial five minute period after the accident where it is important to take correct steps in order to determine if your rights have been violated. The first crucial step is to ensure that you stay at the scene of the accident.
After you stick around, it is time to investigate further, if you are able. This is where it is important to assess your health and the health of your passengers to determine if anyone is in need of medical assistance. Then, be sure to contact the police to report the accident and any potential bodily injuries. If you are physically able, then, it is best to exchange information with the other driver, contact your insurance company and talk to anyone who witnessed the accident.
Witnesses may be able to corroborate your version of the accident. This is especially crucial if your rights have been violated when another driver was driving in a negligent manner at the time of the accident. Witnesses can help to shed light on the particulars of the accident that help you win your case. They aren’t always necessary but any additional proof can help you recover for the wrongs you have endured.

Clark County car accidents and injuries, explained
The state of Nevada has different public and government-based groups that make it their responsibility to investigate, tally and analyze car accidents resulting in damages, injuries or death throughout the state. Much of the data compiled in Nevada comes out of Clark County which is the home of Las Vegas and Reno. Of the 51,664 crashes in Nevada in 2010, nearly 79 percent occurred in Clark County. This shows how careful Reno drivers need to be as the odds are clearly not in their favor.
There have been a decrease in the number of car accidents per 100 million cars recorded in Nevada in comparison to 2009. However, the number of fatalities are up compared to 2009. 257 people lost their lives on Nevada roads in 2010. There are several reasons for these accidents but most fall under three categories. Failure to stay in lane, excessive speed and failure to yield are the top three reasons for Reno crashes causing fatalities.
Some of the contributing factors that caused the driver of a vehicle to leave their lane, speed or fail to yield are as follows. Many drivers were affected by drugs or alcohol. Some were so fatigued they fell asleep at the wheel. And, other drivers were simply distracted at the time of the accident.
All of these reasons for fatal car accidents are examples of negligent behavior behind the wheel. While the driver may not have meant to cause harm, the outcome was exactly the opposite when they struck another vehicle and claimed an innocent person’s life. The loss that these and people and families have sustained is unimaginable. It goes far beyond the damages to the vehicle or property. We’re talking about loss of life. By taking legal action people can hold negligent drivers responsible for these deaths.

Understanding the ‘how’ and ‘why’ of deadly car accidents can help give everyone more information about these accidents occur. Most importantly, it can help prevent car accidents that result in death and serious injuries from ever occurring in the first place. For those Reno residents unlucky enough to be involved in such car accidents, serious consequences can result. Such was the case for a Reno man who recently lost his life in a head-on collision with another vehicle.
The deadly car accident played out on U.S. Highway 95. A driver heading northbound on Highway 95 made the decision to pass a semi-truck on the two-lane highway. This caused the Corolla to enter the southbound lane where it collided head-on with the southbound driving Mini Cooper. The driver of the Mini-Cooper was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
The Nevada Highway Patrol recorded this accident as the 27th fatal car accident on Nevada roads this year. According to the NHP, the accident happened because of the Corolla’s decision to pass the semi-truck on the two-lane highway. There has been no word if charges will be filed against the driver of the Corolla. Driving safely and with patience is the best way to prevent these type of car accidents from occurring on Reno roads.
The young man who lost his life in the blink of an eye certainly has much that he left behind. Family and friends will mourn a life cut short. It is a great reminder for all Nevadans to remember to drive cautiously in order to preserve the health and lives of everyone on the road. People who have suffered from serious or deadly car accidents, may have the right to seek compensation in a civil suit.
